Speed Sign Report – 1 September – 1 October 2018

The report attached is produced from the data recorded by the signs. There are two different
types of report formats as we are using two different types of sign from different manufacturers.

The Report covers from the 1 September – 1 October 2018. The newer signs were only deployed in the
middle of September, so do not have data for the full month.

Data Analysis

Holywell – A192 The Paddock – The average speed of vehicles passing this sign is 29.4 mph. 85% of
vehicles are travelling up to or slower than 33 mph.

Holywell – Elsdon Avenue Shops – The average speed of vehicles passing this sign is 23.2 mph. 85% of
vehicles are travelling up to or slower than 28 mph.

New Hartley – Bristol Street – The average speed of vehicles passing this sign is 20 mph. 85% of vehicles
are travelling up to or slower than 26 mph.

New Hartley – St Michael’s Avenue – The average speed of vehicles passing this sign is 21 mph. 85% of
vehicles are travelling up to or slower than 26 mph.

Seaton Delaval – A190 Avenue Head – The average speed of vehicles passing this sign is 29 mph. 85% of
vehicles are travelling up to or slower than 32 mph.

Seaton Sluice – B1325 Hartley Lane – The average speed of vehicles passing this sign is 29 mph. 85% of
vehicles are travelling up to or slower than 37 mph.

Seaton Sluice – A193 Links Road – The average speed of vehicles passing this sign is 29 mph. 85% of
vehicles are travelling up to or slower than 32 mph.

Seghill – A190 Annitsford Road – The average speed of vehicles passing this sign is 36.8 mph. 85% of
vehicles are travelling up to or slower than 46 mph.

Conclusion

The reports show that a majority of drivers are observing the speed limits and average speed is below the
enforceable limit. In locations where the speed limit is 20 mph, this speed reduction has resulted in drivers
reducing their average speeds.
