Coronavirus Update – 18 March 2020

Office Opening and Customer Interactions

The Council is endeavouring to keep its office open between 8.30pm and 4.00pm Monday to Friday; however, in line with government advice we are taking some immediate steps to reduce the number of interactions our staffs have with customers.

Firstly we have decided to suspend the collection of face to face allotment rent payments with immediate effect and secondly we would ask residents to contacts us by email or telephone wherever possible and to only call into the office in exceptional circumstances.

Our contact details are as follows:

Telephone: 0191 2379870       Email:

 Volunteer Groups

The Council is aware that a number of ad hoc groups are in the process of being set up in Seaton Valley to assist any of our vulnerable residents who are required to self-isolate. We hope to contact these groups within the next few days to offer any help and support we can give them and to provide a central point of contact for residents. We are happy to take calls or receive emails now from vulnerable residents who have had to self-isolate with a view to putting them in touch with volunteer support.

Can we ask any Volunteer Groups that have been set up to support vulnerable residents affected by the coronavirus crisis to contact us as soon as possible to register their project with the Council.

Organisations in Seaton Valley Offering Delivery Services to Self-Isolating Residents

One local company has already approached us to say that they are introducing a service to make deliveries to self-isolating residents. Can all other organisations who can offer similar services contact us with their details so that we can create a directory of local delivery organisations? Hopefully this directory will help self-isolating residents’ access basic essentials without the need to involve volunteer groups.

Laidlers’ delivery service will be available from tomorrow – their contact details are as follows:

Tel: 0191 2373073     Email:

They are able to deliver fresh fruit, vegetables, milk, eggs and bread when available.
