The Seaton Valley Photography Competition 2021 attracted over two hundred and forty entries across the five categories of Landscape, Wildlife, Community, Under 18s and Under 10s. The theme of the competition is for residents to enter pictures that represent the place where they live.
The winners were chosen by a panel of judges made up of councillors from the three Seaton Valley Wards. The panel had a wide range of photographs to view that included landscapes from the countryside and the coast, stunning wildlife images, families enjoying the area and fun pictures of animals and pets.
The standard of the pictures submitted into the competition was very high and the judging panel spent a long time discussing the entries before they were able to make their decisions on the category winners. The winners are:
- Landscape – Michelle Williams
- Wildlife – Joanne Richardson
- Community – Susan Devlin
- Under 18s – Rhys Friend
- Under 10s – Jake Friend
The judges were very impressed by all of the entries. Cllr. Les Bowman, County Councillor and Parish Councillor for Holywell Ward, who has been a judge on the competition for several years, said ‘The pictures entered this year were from so many different viewpoints around the Valley and showed how people are enjoying our beautiful open spaces’.
Our two new judges were also very impressed with the standard of the pictures. Cllr, Sue Bowman, Parish Councillor for Seghill with Seaton Delaval Ward, said ‘This is the first year I have been on the Judging Panel and I have really enjoyed seeing all of the pictures. I have loved the variety of the images and seeing the Valley in all of the seasons’.
Cllr. Jill Henderson, Councillor for Hartley Ward, said ‘There are pictures from areas in Seaton Valley that I have never seen before and I admire the patience the photographers have to get their images’.
We would like to thank everyone who submitted photographs into the competition and we really enjoyed seeing the images from across Seaton Valley and how much people were enjoying the area.
Due to ongoing Coronavirus restrictions, we were unable to hold a prize winning event but all of the winners received their certificates and vouchers.
