Seaton Sluice Community Centre Celebration Day

Published: June, 2024

Community News:  Seaton Sluice Community Centre hosted an incredible Community Celebration Day on Wednesday 5 June to honour their dedicated volunteers, generous sponsors, supportive funders, and all the amazing groups that use the centre.

The Community Centre recently received the prestigious King’s Award for Voluntary Service, the highest recognition a local voluntary group can achieve in the UK, equivalent to an MBE.

To celebrate this incredible achievement, the committee at the community centre decided to organise a special Celebration Day to express gratitude to all the hardworking volunteers who selflessly contribute their time to ensure the smooth operation and upkeep of the centre for the benefit of the residents.

The committee also seized the opportunity to extend their appreciation to their sponsors and funders, as well as celebrate the diverse range of groups that use the community centre.

The event was a showcase of the various user groups, including sewing, embroidery, crochet, photography, Friends of the Church of Our Lady, Friends of Holywell Dene, wood turning, carving, dance, exercise classes, and accordion players, among others.

The main hall was bustling with activity, offering refreshments and a projected display of photographs capturing ‘A year in the life of our community centre’, which has been made into a book.

The event was a resounding success, with a fantastic turnout and a special visit from Dr. Caroline Pryer, the new Lord-Lieutenant for Northumberland.
