Seghill Community Gala 2024

Community News:  The Seaton Valley Village Summer Events of 2024 kicked off in spectacular fashion on Saturday 1 June with the Seghill Community Gala.

The festivities began at midday with the Gala Parade, starting from Burnlea Gardens and making its way through the village to the Memorial Recreational Ground. Excited residents of all ages lined the streets, cheering on the parade as it passed by.

Leading the parade was the Community Gala Banner, proudly carried by members of the organising committee. Following closely behind were the Gala King and Queen, the Backworth Colliery Brass Band, colourful ponies, the creative Krazee Krafters, vintage World War II vehicles, classic cars, and a lively samba band.

Once at the main recreation ground, the fun continued with a variety of activities including craft stalls, raffle, tombola, face painting, and a delicious selection of street food and refreshments. Children were kept entertained with a bouncy castle, magic shows and laser quest, while live music from the DrumDim Samba Band, Backworth Colliery Brass Band, and talented local buskers.

Even the furry friends got in on the action with a dog show for those who accompanied their owners to the Gala.

And let’s not forget the traditional Fun Fair on the field, offering thrilling fairground rides for the whole family to enjoy.
